Engine Lathe Restoration

Join me in the machine shop for the lathe restoration. This is an engine lathe (or metal lathe) that I inherited from my grandfather and it is a metal machine tool used for metal turning and thread cutting, among many other lathe uses. During this machine restoration I will be getting into a little bit of everything including the lathe chuck assembly, power feed mechanisms, tailstock alignment with a dial test indicator, and even lathe safety. And who knows, we might even make some metal chips on this fine piece of industrial machinery.

  1. Thank you for sharing your videos!
I have the same make and model lathe. It’s the best machine I’ve ever owned, I had a 9″ South Bend for years but once this machine arrived it replaced everything..
    Cheers

    • How cool! I love this lathe already but that is really encouraging to hear! I’ve used a few other lathes in my time and the only thing that has come close is a smaller Hardinge HLV. Which is really only meant for small parts anyway, Thanks for following along!
