The #ChamferIt Block

Nothing fancy.
Just an opportunity.

When you start a project, you have a choice. You can do it quick and dirty.

Or you can do it right.

This block is for those of us who love what we do, who take our time, and who take pride in our work.

For those who want to say “I cared enough to do a really, really, good job.”

What is The #ChamferIt Block?

The #ChamferIt Block is an unfinished aluminum block engraved by Brandon himself in the Inheritance Machining shop.

And it’s unfinished for a reason: YOU have to finish it.

Your task is to:
1. finish your #ChamferIt Block the best you can
2. take pride in your craftsmanship

Whether you are an enthusiastic hobbyist, a seasoned machinist, or just beginning your maker’s journey, The #ChamferIt Block represents your commitment to your craft.

This simple block is part of your mark on the world. It is proof you were here.
Proof of your presence, your humanity, your work, and your character.

Your #ChamferIt Block is your reminder to do your best, every day, in everything you lay your hands on.

Inheriting a Legacy

I’m Brandon. You probably know me from the YouTube channel Inheritance Machining. I started out restoring my grandfather’s machine shop, but that has turned into more. A lot more.

As I work through different projects, try out different techniques, and share my mistakes and discoveries, I come back to the same idea.

I want to take pride in my craftsmanship.

I want my videos, my designs, my projects, and everything I do to be done as good as I can manage.

In fact, I even get frustrated sometimes when what I’ve done doesn’t live up to my own standard.

That’s why the #ChamferIt Block is here. You may not have the time, skills, equipment, or resources to do everything exactly as you want. But this block is just enough for anyone to do well.

Your #ChamferIt Project

The block is yours to transform.

Of course, you could use a mill to finish the faces and add chamfers to the edges. But what if you don’t have a mill? Limited equipment won’t stop someone like you.

What about a bench grinder? A file? Some sandpaper?
Or heck, rub it around on some concrete?

But why stop at chamfers? Put holes in it. Make it a keychain. Turn it into a tool. Or whatever else you can come up with.

All that matters is you make your block the best you can with what you have. And that you’re proud of what you’ve accomplished.

Once you’ve finished your block, send us a picture at contact@inheritancemachining.com. Or use the hashtag #chamferit on social media. We’ll create a gallery of your hard work as inspiration and aspiration for others.

Excellence…but at what cost?

So how much is this thing? Well, I’ll warn you. It’s REALLY expensive.

$38

Are you kidding? $38 for a block I have to put my own chamfers on?

Yes. That’s right. $38 for something you have to finish before it looks good.

But let me ask you a question.

WHY do you add chamfers? They aren’t necessary. Parts usually work fine without them. Chamfers take so much time adding little beveled faces on every edge, corner, and round.

It’s SUCH a headache, why would you do that? Because it makes your final partโ€ฆ better.

And you care about making things better.

This isn’t just a rough cut block.

Itโ€™s a commitment to being better not just in the shop, but in your life.

Itโ€™s a reminder that, when you do a project, you will always do it the best you can, because you are a person who will go above and beyond.

You take pride in your creations and only ever put your best into the world.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens after I buy my block?

First, you get a big huge congratulations! You just committed to bettering yourself through a small simple act. High five to you! Next, the busy warehouse badgers here at IM will scurry around and pack your order. Then we’ll ship it off to you and it should arrive shortly (depending on location). This first wave of orders may take us a while to get through, so please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery. If you have any questions about your order, you can email our team at contact@inheritancemachining.com.

What if I have no machining tools, how can I chamfer my block?

Fortunately, aluminum is a very soft metal, and it doesn’t take much to make your mark. Use sandpaper, a knife, a file, or just beat the devil out of it. You can use any method you can imagine to finish your block.

Do I have to chamfer it? Can I leave it plain?

This project is your journey alone. If leaving your block plain is what reminds you to pursue excellence, then that’s the path you should take. However…it needs some proper sexy chamfers, don’t you think?

Do you ship internationally?

We do! Shipping is free within the US. And if you’re outside the US, it will be calculated at checkout and added to your order.

What if I get my block and decide I hate machining and don’t want to do my best, can I get a refund?

If, when you get your wonderfully unfinished block just begging to be transformed by your capable hands, you decide that precision craftsmanship isn’t your jam, contact us within 14 days of purchase and we’ll refund you no questions asked.

Can I buy multiple blocks?

You can buy as many blocks as you, your friend, your dad, your neighbor, and your dog want. We don’t put constraints on the pursuit of excellence.

Who makes the blocks?

Have you ever wanted your own piece of Inheritance Machining legacy? This is your chance! The blocks are made by Brandon himself in the one and only inherited machine shop. Each letter is traced out on the pantograph Brandon rescued in this video. So if you want a chance to own a tiny piece of IM history, this is it.

What is a hashtag? Do I have to share online if I finish my #ChamferIt Block?

Hashtags are used in social media to easily find other people doing the same project as you. If you want to be part of the #chamferit community, simply upload a picture or video of your finished block to any social platform. In the description write “#chamferit”, and your picture or video will be tagged along with all the other projects with the #chamferit tag. By clicking on or searching the hashtag, you can see other block projects along with your own.

The Bottom Line

This #ChamferIt Block is a single piece of aluminum.
It’s not very big or heavy or special.

But it is your chance to demonstrate craftsmanship, integrity, and care.

It is your chance to leave your mark and the world a bit better.
