Making a Tap Wrench
Join me in the machine shop where we’ll make a tap wrench. I want it to be really nice, so rather than reinvent the wheel, I’ll be mimicking a Starrett 91C. We will be using the engine lathe and the vertical milling machine for most of this DIY tool project and making use of materials

Lathe Leveling and Alignment
Join me in the machine shop for a little engine lathe leveling and alignment 101, and quite possibly, just maybe, a few side projects. This is a long overdue project that evaded the lathe restoration, and for good reason. I had to make sure this is where I wanted this machine. The lathe leveling procedure

Surface Grinder Restoration
Join me in the machine shop for the surface grinder restoration. This is a precision surface grinding machine that I inherited from my grandfather. It is an industrial machine tool designed for the sole purpose of making parts extremely flat. So why on earth would a hobby machinist require such a specialized piece of equipment

Making Collet Blocks
Join me in the machine shop for the first official machining project. Here I’ll be making a pair of collet blocks for the 5C collet set I inherited from my grandfather. Collet blocks are a type of 5C collet fixture used for holding small round workpieces in the mill or anywhere else you might need

Engine Lathe Restoration
Join me in the machine shop for the lathe restoration. This is an engine lathe (or metal lathe) that I inherited from my grandfather and it is a metal machine tool used for metal turning and thread cutting, among many other lathe uses. During this machine restoration I will be getting into a little bit

Milling Machine Restoration
Join me in my machine shop for the Bridgeport restoration. Ok so it’s not technically a Bridgeport mill, but it is a vertical milling machine based on the Bridgeport design. Nevertheless, this is a used milling machine and is long overdue for a serious cleaning and adjustment before I can make any chips. First step

Machine Shop Tour
After all these years, I can hardly believe I have a machine shop of my own. Last video you saw how we moved all these industrial machines, but we didn’t talk much about what they actually are. So let’s take a shop tour! Here I break down the four “big” machines including the vertical milling

I Inherited a Machine Shop
I inherited my grandfather’s machine shop. He was a hobby machinist and his machine shop consisted of several industrial machines including an engine lathe or manual lathe for metal turning, a vertical milling machine like a bridgeport mill or 3 axis mill with several mill machine bits, a surface grinder, and a metal cutting bandsaw.
