Making an ARMY of Tool Holders
Welcome back to the manual machine shop! This video I’ll be expanding my collection of tool holders for my Aloris style CXA quick change tool post on my metal lathe. Constantly having to mount different tools in the holders is the opposite of “quick” so I’m excited to finally fix this problem. I’ll make the bodies from annealed 4140 steel and I’ll be getting into surface grinding, then dovetail cutting and power tapping on the vertical milling machine. And as you’ll see, this requires a fair amount of precision setup and on the fly problem solving. I’ll then move over to the manual lathe to knock out the hardware which involves knurling and threading the knobs. Then metric threading the height adjustment studs. All in all I’m excited for the functionality these additional holders will bring me for future projects. Enjoy!
